It's the end of the line for Tyler Townsend.

Carson Rowland will not be back for Sweet Magnolias season 5, PEOPLE has confirmed, which means that fans will not be seeing his character, Ty, the oldest of Maddie's (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) kids, in the upcoming installment. Season 5 is slated to premiere June 11 on Netflix.

Rowland, 28, has not addressed the exit, but fans have been expressing their disappointment about the news on social media.

One fan wrote in a post on X that Ty's budding romance with his childhood friend, Annie (Anneliese Judge), "was the only reason" they "even watched" Sweet Magnolias. "I'm so mad," the fan wrote.

Fans also flooded the comments section of Rowland's most recent Instagram post, with one writing, "Ty didn't deserve that 💔," and another said, "Season 5 will not be the same."

Season 4 ended with Ty and Annie, Dana Sue's (Brooke Elliott) daughter, finally admitting their feelings for each other — but a lot of questions remained about their future, as Annie was heading off to college in California, while Ty was planning a tour with his band in Europe.

Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson spoke to Netflix's Tudum after season 4 and addressed Ty and Annie's future specifically.

"It’s easy to believe that it’s all Disney princesses and starlit moments from here on in,” she said. “We wanted to have them value their individual dreams, but also look at, ‘What does that do to us as a couple? Can we be mature enough to give each other that space?’"

"We know that people are really behind this relationship, but we just thought it would be false to say, ‘And now everything’s fine.’ Because good relationships take work," she said.

Though Rowland will not appear in season 5, several new faces have joined the cast, including Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Sigler, 45, will play writer Nell Winters, who Maddie befriends as she starts a new chapter in New York.

Being in New York poses new challenges for Maddie, though, particularly as it means she's far away from her husband, Cal (Justin Bruening), and kids.

Season 5 will also see Helen (Heather Headley) finally getting ready to marry Erik (Dion Johnstone).
