Grace Van Patten is a Scorpio, but she doesn’t fully resonate with her zodiac sign.
During a recent interview with Teen Vogue, the Tell Me Lies actress opened up about astrology alongside her costar (and real-life boyfriend) Jackson White, who portrays one of television’s most polarizing characters, Stephen DeMarco.
Based on Carola Lovering’s bestselling novel, Tell Me Lies follows a group of college students whose relationships are defined by obsession, power struggles and betrayal.
The series builds tension not through explosive plot twists alone, but through the slow unraveling of its characters’ facades, revealing just how deeply deception is woven into their identities.
In Teen Vogue’s “Compliment Battle,” one fan praised Van Patten online, writing, “She makes me so proud to be a Scorpio every day.” The actress responded with a smile, but was quick to clarify her complicated relationship with the sign.
“I am on the cusp,” she explained. “When I’ve heard more about my rising and moon, I have traits of all of them, but there are some traits of Scorpios I don’t really relate to.”
Born on Nov. 21, 1996, Van Patten was born with her sun at 29 degrees of Scorpio, so while there’s no such thing as being two signs (or a cusp), there is such a thing as decans in astrology, which separate each zodiac sign into three distinct sections.
When asked if she and White had to guess which zodiac signs Lucy and Stephen would be, Van Patten said, “Lucy might be Scorpio — the parts I don’t relate to.”
“Stephen could be a Gemini, maybe,” Van Patten added with a laugh. “I just know that they’re two-faced.” White laughed along, clearly aware of the reputation his character has earned among fans. “Stephen doesn’t have a sign,” she jokingly said, referencing his almost villainous unpredictability.
In the comments, fans debated Van Patten's answers. While affirmed that Lucy is definitely a Scorpio, they argued that Stephen is more of a Taurus.
"My guess: Lucy is an Aries Sun with a Scorpio Moon," another chimed in noting how her character can be "impulsive" but "has deep empathy and emotions hidden behind a protective exterior."
For Stephen, they argued he's actually the true Scorpio Sun with a Capricorn Moon, writing, "Stephen is mysterious and intense. Very goal oriented. And can be quite cold."
Van Patten and White first met during their audition for Tell Me Lies three years ago.In the Hulu series, Van Patten plays Lucy Albright, while White plays Stephen, together giving toxic relationships a whole new meaning."God, we're way less exciting than Lucy and Stephen," Van Patten told PEOPLE in August 2025. "We're way less dramatic, which I am very thankful for."
"Our relationship feels very grounded and easy, and we really understand each other," Van Patten added. "And he's such a dedicated, ambitious human that I learn from every day, and he's so extremely supportive."
Having her boyfriend by her side amid the overwhelming fan response to Tell Me Lies has been an added blessing to their real-life relationship.
"It was crazy — that jump of season 1 to season 2, and the internet viral thing that manifested," she admits. "I had no idea what it was going to be, but it's such a joy to work on. It's with all my best friends now, my boyfriend, like, we're all a family. It doesn't feel like work."
