Lara Jean Shares an Update About Peter KavinskyNetflix

Spoilers below.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before fans, we just got news on how Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky are doing these days. In season 3 of XO, Kitty, the Netflix spinoff focusing on the youngest Covey sister, Lara Jean (Lana Condor) makes a guest appearance and shares some relationship updates...but it’s not entirely good news.

In episode 2, Lara Jean hints that she and Peter are on a break. “Our lives are just not compatible right now,” she tells Kitty, who is visiting her in New York for the summer. It turns out, Peter has taken a job in California while LJ has to stay in NYC, where most major publishing houses are based, as she pursues her career as a writer. Mind you, the last To All the Boys film came out in 2021; a lot can happen in five years, like Peter and LJ graduating from college and entering the workforce.

Kitty still believes her sister and Peter are “endgame,” though. Plus, a shot of Lara Jean’s desk reveals she still has a photobooth strip from her and Peter’s bowling date on display.

In episode 6, Lara Jean visits Kitty at school to help her bounce back from a breakup. While discussing her job, she says the “upside to being single” is that she has more time to work on her manuscript draft. (Single, LJ?!) Still, Peter is on her mind. Kitty notices that LJ bought a souvenir for him—a pair of character socks—during a shopping spree in Seoul, signaling that hope is not lost. But she’s not forcing anything. “I don’t know what’s going to happen between me and Peter,” she tells Kitty. “I think that we have to follow our hearts and trust that it will lead us to our next great adventure.” Lara Jean reiterates that feeling later in the episode when she reveals that she sent her manuscript draft to her boss, taking a risk for her career. “I really do not know what the future holds for Peter and I, but I can’t not bet on myself.”

But in the season finale, Lara Jean has some exciting updates: Not only did she receive good feedback on her manuscript, but she’s also working things out with Peter. “Obviously, there’s a lot of things that we need to figure out, but we are gonna make it work,” she tells Kitty over the phone. “Love is worth the risk, right?” (Phew. Alexa, play “I Like Me Better” by Lauv.)

Condor’s guest-starring turn in XO, Kitty comes a year after Noah Centineo made a cameo as Peter in season 2. At the time, he and LJ were still in a good place, and he gave Kitty some relationship advice. After some worrying (but natural!) bumps in the road, we’re hoping we get to see the couple back together on-screen again.
