- Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. will star in Hulu's *Cable Guy* series.

- The comedy pilot will reunite the *New Girl* favorites.

- This will not be a traditional remake of the Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick film.

Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr. are going from the *New Girl* to the *Cable Guy*.

After starring together in the beloved Fox sitcom, Johnson and Wayans Jr. will be reuniting in a new Hulu comedy that is inspired by the 1996 cult classic *The Cable Guy*, * *has confirmed.

Directed by Ben Stiller and produced by Judd Apatow, *The Cable Guy* featured Jim Carrey as an eccentric cable man who becomes fixated on one of his customers (Matthew Broderick).

Before giving an official series order, Hulu is commissioning a pilot, which was written by Rob Rosell (*It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia*) and Joe Piarulli and Luan Thomas (*Cobra Kai*). The series will not be a straight remake, but more of an homage, in the way that FX's *Fargo* was for the Joel and Ethan Coen's Oscar-winning film.

Here is the logline for the new *Cable Guy*: "In a world of endless streaming, binging, and algorithms, old-school cable technician Chip Douglas (Johnson) languishes alone — until Steven Stephens (Wayans Jr.) calls to have his cable turned back on, reconnecting Chip with a childhood friend he never forgot. The relationship gives each man something he’s been missing… until Chip’s enthusiasm turns into obsession. Inspired by the movie, the show explores the darkly absurd side of modern-day male friendship."

Johnson and Wayans Jr. first collaborated on the 2011 *New Girl *pilot, in which they played roommates Nick and Coach, respectively. But Wayans couldn't continue on the series due to his obligations to ABC's *Happy Endings*, and so Lamorne Morris joined in episode 2 as a new character. Wayans then returned as Coach in season 3, appearing on-and-off for the rest of the seven-season run. During *New Girl*'s time on the air, the duo reunited on the big screen as the leads of the 2014 comedy hit *Let's Be Cops*.
