Tiger Woods will not be among the golfers teeing off at Augusta National Golf Club today to compete in the 90th edition of the Masters.
Woods, a five-time winner at the tournament, crashed his SUV in Jupiter, Florida in late March and Jupiter Police subsequently arrested the golfer on suspicion of driving under the influence. He pleaded not guilty last week. “I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in,” Woods posted in a statement on social media. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
He continued, “I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

While Woods had not yet confirmed whether or not he would play in the 2026 Masters at the time of his crash (he last played in 2024, skipping last year in the wake of a ruptured Achilles tendon), there was speculation he would return. After Woods released his statement, however, the Masters announced Woods would not be competing.
“Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters Tournament fully support Tiger Woods as he focuses on his well-being,” Fred Ridley, the Chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, said in a statement last week. “Although Tiger will not be joining us in person next week, his presence will be felt here in Augusta.”
