Rider Strong, Will Friedle and Danielle Fishel tell PEOPLE about their memories from the set, catching up on the show and sharing special moments with fans
The three have worked together on their rewatch podcast, Pod Meets World, since 2022
The Boy Meets World alums' sold-out national tour was captured in Doc Meets World, which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 6
Rider Strong accidentally caught an episode of Boy Meets World on camera, all from the POV of Ben Savage.
During his time as Shawn Hunter on Boy Meets World, the actor, 46, would record what was happening behind the scenes on his family's camera. Some pieces of that footage are included in Doc Meets World, a new documentary following Strong and his co-stars Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle on the sold-out national live tour of their popular rewatch podcast.
Speaking with PEOPLE ahead of the documentary's premiere at Tribeca, Strong shares, "I grew up with my parents. The reason I got into acting was that my parents were early adopters of VHS cameras in the early '80s. So we always had a camera at my house, and we always were filming. And I think somewhere right near the last two seasons of Boy, I started going around with a camera."

While Strong wasn't bringing his own camera to set "all that often," he did uncover a surprising amount of footage from his time on set.
"I was only able to find two full tapes of Boy Meets World behind-the-scenes footage. And it was mostly what you see there, which is like me sticking a camera on someone's face and saying, 'Say hi,' and then they said hi. And then I'd run away."
Strong shared that he discovered he had footage that was part of an episode of Boy Meets World.
"Then there's actually one really strange thing that I have, is a tape... there's an episode where Ben, Cory, is supposed to be making the documentary, and I guess we used my camera as the rehearsal camera."

The episode, season 5's Boy Meets Real World, features Cory recording his friends and family in an early reality TV-ish fashion.
"So I have footage from Ben's POV during rehearsals of rehearsing that whole episode. He would actually hit record. We're sitting there holding our scripts, and we're just in our regular clothes doing rehearsals," he laughed, surprising Friedle, 49, and Fishel.

The three former costars came together for Pod Meets Worldin 2022. Despite their time apart, the three fell right back into the familiar feel of their friendship.
"I don't think any of us, the three of us, especially all for the most part, had such an honest relationship with each other. If things were ever awkward, it wasn't awkwardness that was like, 'Well, why is this awkward?' We were just aware, we're in different places right now and that's why it's awkward," Fishel explains.
"When we made the decision to spend time together in this way, it was because it sounded like the best possible scenario for where we were in our lives and our relationships with each other. And it's been, honestly, the biggest gift for me in these last few years. Other than my husband and my children, Rider and Will have been the best gift these last five to seven years have given me."
Agreeing, Friedle added that, "It's always worked. It's always been a friendship. It's always been deeper than the show."
"I mean, the show obviously brought us all together and is the shared memories that we have, but it's such a small part of the shared memories that we have," he explains.
"I mean, we grew up together. We've known each other for 35 years now, and just kind of know everything about each other. And so every time we're together, I think we're all waiting to get sick of each other or waiting to run out of things to say and we just have enough."
Fishel and Friedle were quick to joke that Strong gets tired of them. He conceded, "I think that, but then whenever we start talking, it's so funny. We'll go two weeks without recording sometimes, and I'll be like, 'Oh, we got to record again.' "
"And then I get on and I start talking to them, and it's like, 'Oh wow, we have a lot to talk about. We got to catch up on two weeks worth of stuff.' So it's pretty ridiculous," he laughed.
Doc Meets World makes its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday, June 6.
