*Teen Mom* and *16 and Pregnant* reality TV star Farrah Abraham is ready — perhaps *too* ready — to start her bid to hold political office
The 34-year-old television personality joined TMZ for a live interview earlier this week, where she intended to announce a political campaign to hold office in Texas. Not only did Abraham announce the incorrect office she sought, but she was also unsure of the correct timeline of elections in the state.
Shortly after the interview began, the outlet's founder, Harvey Levin, quickly cast doubt on the viability of Abraham's mayoral ambitions by pointing out that Austin's election for that office — currently held by Kirk Watson, who was elected in 2024 — won't happen until 2028.
"I’m super excited to be a candidate for mayor of Austin. I’m running super early, so I can’t wait to see who’s going to run with me and challenge me," Abraham said in the video, before Levin asked her why she was running for mayor "so early" ahead of the 2028 election.

"Oh, for some reason, the mayor election is 2026. I don’t know, that’s just what the office told me as well,” Abraham said, attempting to clarify. “Am I running for district? For district, which is federal, I’m running local right now. Local is a little bit different than federal. I did say my hope after running for local is for a local district, which is in 2028. So, I do have hopes for running for district, but for right now, I’m going to stay in a non-partisan category, which is mayor."
She then invoked the name of fellow reality star Spencer Pratt, who recently announced his intention to run to become the mayor of Los Angeles, as inspiration for her own campaign. Levin then pointed out that the Los Angeles mayoral election is, in fact, in 2026, though Abraham pushed back, saying that she doesn't believe "mayors are on a different year" for polling.
"It’s different in every city," Levin informed her.
When Abraham began to realize that she'd made a mistake, she requested that she do an interview with Levin at "another time," though Levin pressed on.

She then claimed that she even opened a bank account to accept funding, and that she filed paperwork to join an election race.
"I love that I jumped the gun," she said near the end of the interview, adding that she's "excited for more stars to step up and run for office, whether that’s local or federally. I’m super excited for more people to do that."
When reached for comment, a representative for Abraham pointed * *to a statement on her Instagram page that read, “I’m running for Austin City Council District 5 because our city has lost balance — we’ve gone soft on crime, driven up prices and left working families like mine struggling to keep up. Enough is enough."
The statement continued, "I’ve faced Hollywood drama, cancel culture and online trolls and I’m still here — ready to fight for Austin families who don’t have lobbyists or insider access. I’m here for the everyday parents juggling jobs, school runs and dreams. It’s time for a survivor mom who knows how to hustle and make real change."
According to *Us Weekly,* Abraham deleted an earlier post (which EW could not verify) that, per the outlet, explicitly announced her bid for mayor.
“Austin, my story isn’t just a headline; it’s the blueprint for Austin’s 2026 transformation,” *Us Weekly* reported that Abraham wrote Thursday in her deleted Instagram post. "Let’s Keep Austin Weird, Keep Austin Fair, Vote Farrah Abraham for Austin Mayor 2026!"
In response to our request for comment, a government representative in Austin tells EW via email that Abraham "has filed a Campaign Treasurer Appointment for District 5, allowing her to raise and spend campaign funds," but "she has not officially filed to appear on the ballot, as the filing period for candidacy does not open until July 21."
