At long last, after many years of rumors and fans urging to make it happen, a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is finally on its way.

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, the original story follows recent college graduate Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who lands a job as the assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the powerful and demanding editor-in-chief of a fictional fashion magazine called Runway. Andy struggles with working at the magazine, but starts to find her footing with the help of co-worker Nigel (Stanley Tucci) and even Priestly’s first assistant Emily (Emily Blunt). As Andy grows into her role at the magazine, her challenges shift as she attempts to balance her personal life as well as her long-term career goals.

But what’s next for Andy, Miranda, Nigel, and Emily? Here’s everything we know about The Devil Wears Prada sequel so far:

The movie’s final trailer features a new song by Lady Gaga.

The final trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2 includes a new original song by Lady Gaga and Doechii, fittingly titled “Runway,” in a nod to the magazine at the center of the film. Viewers also learn more about Simone Ashley’s new character, who appears to be Miranda’s new assistant. Andy does seem to have stayed in journalism. (She admits she “gave away” all her designer clothes because they “would be a bit much for a news room,” much to Ashley’s character’s horror.)

While it’s still unclear exactly why Andy is back at Runway, there is talk of a scandal and Miranda biding her time until she can be rid of Andy again. There’s also a trip back to the fashion closet with Tucci’s Nigel and a jaunt on a speed boat in Italy with Emily Blunt’s Emily.

The official trailer brings us back to Runway.

Cheekily set to the opening notes of Madonna’s 1990 hit “Vogue,” the first full trailer dropped on Sunday, February 1. At one minute and 39 seconds long, viewers get a brief glimpse at the reunion of the first film’s characters inside Runway’s headquarters, two decades later. “Look what TJ Maxx dragged in,” Tucci’s Nigel quips as Andy walks into the office of Miranda Priestly, who either doesn’t remember or pretends not to remember, who Andy is.

In March, a new trailer dropped:

Devil Wears Prada2 will be released on May 1, 2026.

The sequel will be released 20 years after the original came out.

New cast members are joining.

Digital news site Puckreported in July 2024 that Streep and Blunt were signed to the sequel. It only took a year to lock everything down: On June 30, 2025, 20th Century Studios announced that production had started with the primary cast—Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, and Tucci—all locked in to return. Also joining the cast: Kenneth Branagh as Miranda Priestly's husband. (In the film, he’s named Stephen, and Miranda was divorcing him in the first film. But in the novel, Miranda’s husband is named Hunter. So we’ll find out when the movie comes out if this is the same Stephen and just recast, or if it’s a new husband altogether.)

Some of the original cast members signaled interest in returning even before a sequel was ever confirmed by Disney. “Listen, if that happens, it would be great,” Tucci told Parade last September. “I don't know if that's gonna happen. All I know is, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Were it to be revisited, that would be great.”

Blunt told People last year that she couldn't discuss specifics of the project, except that she thought the positive reaction to the sequel news was “cool” and she just wants to “get some good eye makeup going again.” In June, Blunt essentially confirmed she was returning when she toldEntertainment Tonight that she was going to start shooting the sequel in July. “It’s so weird, I haven’t even read a script, I don’t know. I’m just like, where is she, I don’t know,” she said.

Streep will likely avoid method acting in stilettos this time based on her reunion interview with Blunt and Hathaway for Entertainment Weekly in 2021. “It was horrible! I was [miserable] in my trailer,” Streep told EW. “I could hear them all rocking and laughing. I was so depressed! I said, 'Well, it's the price you pay for being boss!' That's the last time I ever attempted a Method thing!”

The cast is also getting much bigger this time. Deadline reports that Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley has joined the production in an unspecified role. Variety adds that Hollywood stars Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak and Pauline Chalamet have also signed on, along with Broadway actors Helen J. Shen and Conrad Ricamora.

The trade publication notes that two more actors are reprising their roles: Tracie Thoms, who played Lily, the best friend to Anne Hathaway’s Andy and Tibor Feldman, who portrayed Irv Ravitz, the chairman of fictional magazine Runway’s parent company Elias-Clark.

Anne Hathaway was seen filming on the streets of NYC.

The film’s star was photographed filming as her famous character on July 21. Hathaway was spotted in a New York City crowd wearing a vibrant, color-block linen maxi dress by luxury designer Gabriela Hearst. She was also seen with a curious garment bag with the word “Runway” emblazoned across it. In an earlier scene, Hathaway was snapped wearing a more subdued outfit consisting of a dark pinstripe matching set with black boots and messenger bag. Andy Sachs has certainly come a long way from that infamous cerulean blue sweater.

Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci filmed at Milan Fashion Week.

Life imitated art when Streep came face-to-face with former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour at Dolce & Gabbana’s fall fashion show in Milan on September 27. It’s widely been assumed that Wintour served as the original inspiration for the character of Miranda Priestly. With a blunt and blonde short haircut, Streep wore dark sunglasses and sat front row at the show with Tucci. According to the , the Italian fashion house confirmed that the actors were there to film a scene for the new movie.

Ashley wrapped filming in October 2025.

Bridgerton star Simone Ashley was the first members of the cast to announce they were done with filming on The Devil Wears Prada 2. The British actress posted to Instagram an image of herself in the window seat of an airplane with the caption, “That’s a wrap on The Devil Wears Prada 2! Ciao for now!” Ashley’s role in the project is still a mystery. She was filmed on set with the principal cast, especially Streep and Tucci, frequently in New York in July and August.

One major character is not returning.

Adrien Grenier, however, who played Hathaway’s boyfriend in the film, will not be in the sequel, per Entertainment Weekly. The character had taken on a new light in recent years, often being referred to as the real “villain” (instead of Priestly) in internet memes. “All those memes that came out were shocking to me. It hadn't occurred to me until I started to really think about it, and perhaps it was because I was as immature as Nate was at the time, and in many ways he's very selfish and self-involved, it was all about him, he wasn't extending himself to support Andy in her career," Grenier told EW in 2021.

Could the book’s sequel provide hints to the movie’s plot?

Plot details are still under wraps officially, but there are a few leads. Weisberger wrote a sequel to her 2003 novel a decade later: Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns. In that book, nearly a decade after leaving Runway, Andy Sachs is thriving with a career at a successful bridal magazine and a high-profile fiancé on her arm. But on her wedding day, a discovery from the past threatens to upend everything—bringing her face-to-face once more with Priestly.

The media landscape has changed quite a bit since then, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the writers went in a totally different direction for a film set in the present day.

Per Variety, the sequel will focus on Streep's fearsome Priestly, even though Streep herself hasn't been confirmed to return just yet. (Her portrayal of Priestly garnered her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in 2007.) As the trade paper describes, the fill will follow “Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and as she faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

We'll update this as soon as we learn more about the The Devil Wears Prada sequel.
