Tom Holland says Zendaya's understanding of Hollywood pressures has been a crucial support in his career

The couple, who met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, confirmed their relationship in 2021 and got engaged in 2024

Tom Holland has not only a costar and a partner in Zendaya, but a "lifeline."

The Spider-Man actor, 30, opened up about their relationship during a June 2 appearance on Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast, telling the comedian that having someone who understands the work he does has made all the difference in the "wild world" of Hollywood.

"There are ups and downs, you go from shooting a movie, which is when we're all at our most comfortable, and then you do a press tour, which feels like you're kind of standing out on the stage," Holland said. "It's so nice to have someone that understands that in such a personal way so that you can talk each other down or you can pick each other up."

He added, "It's a lifeline. I couldn't imagine doing what I do without her."

Holland and Zendaya, 29, first connected on the set of 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, but they didn't confirm their relationship until 2021. The two got engaged over the winter holidays in 2024 and sparked marriage rumors in 2026, though they have declined to confirm whether they tied the knot.

The pair have two movies coming out together in July: the fourth installment of the new Spider-Man franchise, Brand New Day, and The Odyssey. Though they didn't share any scenes in the latter (they play love interests in the former), Holland revealed in an interview with GQ that he went to set on Zendaya's first day shooting because he "just wanted to be there."

On Brand New Day, the couple had much more interaction, with Zendaya describing filming the movie as "coming home" after saying they "grew up on those movies."

"Spider-Man was a dream; I get to go to work every day with my best friend, the person that I love," she said in a May interview with Elle. "We bring our dogs to work; it's like a family affair."

In the same interview, their Odyssey costar Matt Damon told the outlet that he "absolutely adore[s]" Zendaya and Holland together and praised their acting abilities.

"They deserve each other—they're the two loveliest people,” he said. "Look, you forget, [Zendaya] and Tom are very young actors and very accomplished for how young they are, but they're still in their 20s."
